A personal introduction

ShinyaKoyama.

Software EngineerCurrently in Queensland, Australia

Hi, I’m Shinya, a software engineer based in Queensland, Australia. I enjoy exploring what new technology can do, then building and trying things out. These days, I work on startup products and AI-assisted personal projects. This site brings together my journey, the things I’m making, and a little of what I enjoy outside work.

01 About

A little about me.

I’m interested in how new technology can change the way we solve real problems.

In high school, I was drawn to the potential of drones to address infrastructure challenges and joined a drone company as an intern. I helped assemble hardware and develop LiDAR control software, learning to program along the way. Meeting people who were passionate about building things and working in startups became an important starting point for me.

Later, I worked in overseas market research, then developed data systems and software alongside university in Australia. I enjoy thinking through a problem, learning what I need, and turning ideas into something tangible through trial and error. I want to work with people who care deeply about the problems they’re solving.

I now work on financial products, designing and developing ways for Web3 and blockchain technology to be useful in real services and business operations. Alongside that, I sometimes help business owners I know bring AI into their work.

02 Experience & Journey

The path so far.

Across different places and kinds of work, I’ve followed my curiosity, learned and built.

Founding Engineer

DigiClass

  • Fintech
  • Digital Assets
  • Asset Tokenisation
  • Blockchain

I was invited to join a startup as an early team member. Working with the founders and stakeholders, I design and build the product from scratch in a small team.

More about this chapter — DigiClass

I am developing a platform that connects asset issuers and investors. My work spans requirements and MVP prioritisation, system design, backend development, frontend integration, blockchain processing and testing.

To support development in a small team, I bring AI into requirements, implementation, validation and review. I also organise the knowledge and reasoning behind development decisions so they can be shared across the team.

Software Engineer

FSCO

  • Fintech
  • Payments
  • Digital Assets
  • Blockchain

I worked on a SaaS platform for financial institutions. My work spanned the design and development of a bank-facing MVP through to proof-of-concept validation.

More about this chapter — FSCO

For an international-remittance proof of concept connecting bank APIs and blockchain, I worked across bank specifications and constraints, design, implementation, customer demos and sandbox validation. Alongside implementation, I broke down tasks and coordinated responsibilities and progress within the team.

I also designed and implemented on-chain event monitoring and notification services, and financial transaction workflows. My work included state tracking and retries to support reliability, as well as AI-assisted development, review and documentation within the team.

Software Engineer / Data Engineer

Mint Town

  • Gaming
  • Web3
  • Data Engineering

I worked on the data platform for a Play-to-Earn game from before launch through to post-launch, in collaboration with the game operations team. My responsibilities covered design and implementation, followed by ongoing operations and improvements.

More about this chapter — Mint Town

I built systems to collect and transform in-game data and on-chain transaction data, connecting them to a data warehouse and dashboards. I designed data models and aggregations around the metrics and analysis needed for game operations.

After launch, I continued improving the platform for ongoing use, including missing-data and duplicate checks, retries and reprocessing historical data.

Engineer

Thirdverse

  • Gaming
  • VR
  • Data Engineering

I helped bridge teams in Japan and the US while building and improving analytics infrastructure for VR games.

More about this chapter — Thirdverse

I worked with development teams and data users in Japan and the US to clarify metrics, collection events and data specifications. By aligning understanding across teams, I built infrastructure from data collection and storage through to visualisation to support development and operations decisions.

Software Engineer / Data Analyst

ROX

  • E-commerce
  • Data Analytics
  • ML

Alongside preparing for and attending university, I worked on data analysis and software development. My work covered data science, including machine learning, using real-world B2B and e-commerce data.

More about this chapter — ROX

I handled e-commerce and advertising data collection and integration, data-processing automation and dashboards. I analysed data in response to business problems and built systems to support marketing planning and evaluation.

Australia

A new chapter in Australia

I moved to Australia on a working holiday and enjoyed life on a flower farm surrounded by nature.

More about this chapter — A new chapter in Australia

I had originally planned to attend university in the US, but the pandemic changed that plan. After thinking about what I wanted next, I decided to stay in Australia and study Computer Science.

Japan → Asia → Philippines

A gap year, travel and hostel market research

  • Hospitality
  • Travel

Before university, I took a gap year and spent about three months backpacking around Asia. I then spent about six months in the Philippines for work, conducting market research for hostel expansion.

More about this chapter — A gap year, travel and hostel market research

I joined a hostel company’s market research work after meeting them while travelling. After training in Japan, I stayed in Manila and Vigan in the Philippines.

My work included data collection and analysis, market selection, property visits, building local relationships and negotiations. It brought together research through data and going to places to find out for myself.

Japan

Discovering drone development

Intern

  • Drones
  • LiDAR

I started an internship at a drone company in my final year of high school. I helped assemble hardware and develop LiDAR control software. Learning Python as I picked up the knowledge I needed introduced me to the enjoyment of making things move through software.

From Singapore to Japan

Born in Singapore, I moved to Japan at around two and lived there until finishing high school.

06 How I Think

A few things behind the work.

Possibility

Bring technology into real use

When I encounter new technology, I think about whose problems it might help solve. From my early interest in drones to my work with AI now, I want to turn that potential into something useful.

Following AI’s progress, I feel there are more ways it could help with everyday work. I’m interested in finding that gap and making the technology usable.

Making

Think, try, and see it through

I enjoy thinking through a problem and gradually shaping a solution through trial and error. I learn what I don’t know, revisit approaches that didn’t work, and get absorbed in what I’m doing.

When I start something, I want to see it through. That means continuing to learn what I need and moving the work forward.

People

Build with passionate people

The people I met during my first internship, and the passion they brought to their work, left a strong impression on me.

I want to work with people who take the problems they’re solving seriously, sharing ideas and turning them into a product together.

07 Contact

Let’s stay in touch.

If you’d like to talk about building products, technology, or something we could work on together, I’d be happy to hear from you.

Thanks for stopping by.
